Versailles
Versailles
We spent Father’s Day in Versailles. Just as I had missed my opportunity to see the Louvre on our honeymoon, Chris had missed his opportunity to see Versailles (we showed up on a day it was closed). Determined to correct that, we planned the trip with the hotel concierge, who even gave us free tickets.
When we arrived, however, we were stunned to see a very long snake of a line.....for the people who already had tickets (insert groan here). Frustrated, we walked into town and found a guided tour that miraculously was practically free, in English, and promised to skip the line!
We weren’t disappointed. From the gilt exterior detail to the Hall of Mirrors, we felt the vision (not to mention the ego) of the 17th century monarch. Amory preferred Marie Antoinette’s well-appointed bedroom (with amazing canopy bed) and Riley liked seeing statues of lions. Chris was favorably impressed by the Hall of Mirrors and the intricately detailed chapel roof. I thought the chapel was gorgeous, and was disappointed that we could only see it from the outside (I guess they don’t let tourists in).
After our tour, we rushed back to the train so that we could rush back to the Eurostar. At the station, we met an all-too-familiar sight: a long snake of a line! We made it onto our scheduled train by the skin of our teeth, and 2.5 hours later were glad to arrive back to our London digs. Right now we are enjoying a relaxing movie night, watching Charlotte’s Web.
Happy Father’s Day everyone!

The Hall of Mirrors
Cute movie of the girls running through the park on the way to the train. Amory windmills her arms like this a lot.
